Sandy area

The schools in Sandy already operate in the two-tier model of education, so changes as part of the Schools for the Future programme are not required. However, work on a transformation project for Sandy Secondary School has begun.

Where we are now

In December 2022, plans were approved for the transformation of Sandy Secondary School.

The decision gives planning permission for the following changes:

• a new, two-storey detached teaching block

• a single-storey Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) block

• remodelling/refurbishment of the existing school

• provision of a new all-weather artificial pitch remodel

• a new frontage for the school

As part of Central Bedfordshire Council’s New School Places programme, the construction of these new facilities will allow the school to provide space for a total of 1,440 pupils.

These changes, which were consulted on in 2020, are also aimed at helping improve the education of young people in the area by offering more facilities for the students, whilst increasing specialist learning spaces to meet the changing demands of the curriculum.
